How Is a Dutexome Session Performed?

Is Dutexome Safe? The Dutasteride Facts You Need to Know

Dutexome contains a real prescription drug, and you deserve the full picture before you agree to treatment.

It’s a prescription drug, used off-label for hair loss

In India, dutasteride is a Schedule H prescription-only medicine, approved for benign prostatic hyperplasia (an enlarged prostate). It is not approved here for hair loss. Using it for pattern hair loss — orally, or in a scalp mesotherapy solution like Dutexome — is off-label, in India and in nearly every other market. Off-label does not mean illegitimate; it means a doctor is taking clinical responsibility for a use the licence does not specifically cover, and you should know that is what is happening before you consent.

Pregnancy is an absolute exclusion — and it applies to men too

Dutasteride is classified as pregnancy category X. In animal studies it interferes with the development of external genitalia in a male fetus, and it is absorbed through the skin. It must not be used by women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who may become pregnant during or shortly after the treatment course — this is an absolute exclusion we do not make exceptions on.

PSA is the blood marker used to screen for prostate cancer, so an artificially low reading can mask a real problem developing underneath it. Common, expected effects

Can Dutexome Help Protect Native Hair Around a Hair Transplant?

This is the use we find most defensible, and it’s rarely discussed — because most clinics offering Dutexome do not perform hair transplant surgery, so they never see what happens to native hair three to five years later.

A hair transplant moves DHT-resistant donor follicles into a thinning zone. It does nothing to protect the native hair still growing in that same zone, which continues to miniaturise on its own schedule. Patients who ignore this often return years later with a good graft sitting inside an increasingly thin field, needing a second procedure they might have delayed or avoided.

Targeting DHT locally around a transplanted area — with Dutexome, oral medication, or another route — is a rational way to protect that native hair. Whether Dutexome specifically is the right tool for you depends on your age, your grade of loss, and what you’re able to commit to.
